Summer 3 - 2016

This week we have being doing a play and were going to perform it on Thursday. We’re doing it all in rhyme. In maths we have being doing the expanded written method   and in French we’re doing monsters.  In R.E we have being doing Islam things like the mosque and the parry mat. In Sciencewe have being learning about magnets.  North and south stick together but south and south or north and north don’t. In our class display we have being taking picture of our heads and drawing our body. In maths we have been doing the formal method and grid method.   In PE we have be doing cricket and we did some matches and it was really fun. And we all had a go an everything.  In art we were learning about smudged pictures of sport.

Summer 4 - 2016

Years 3 are learning a vast amount of subjects and it is a very busy time in our class. In Computing Year 3 are emailing a message to a former teacher because they are learning how to email. In English we are doing shape poems and it is quite interesting to see how they are shaped. Also in Maths we have been doing methods for multiplication and division, the methods are: the expanded written method, the formal written method and the grid method.

In art we are doing French pictures and coping the style of artists and we are creating our own. Our topic is Europe! We are having a great time learning about European history and
geography. This is Birch class blog.

Summer 2 -2016

This week we have been learning about the Olympics in Topic and we were finding lots of information about different sports.
In Maths, we have been doing addition and Mr Edney has been teaching us loads of interesting ways to do addition and we have been doing word problems and doing posters on Column Addition.
Also in English, we have been focussing on Adventure Stories and reading Stories and trying to find the Adverbs and Adverbial Phrases and our homework is a two week project and we are writing an Adventure story.
In French we have been learning about the parts of our body and doing head shoulders knees and toes.
In P.E we have been doing Cricket/ Rounder’s and doing batting and we are going to start doing our bowling soon and we are practising for sports day.
In Art, we have been doing pictures with pastilles of people from the Olympics and we were doing movement.
In Science, we have been learning about plants and Mr Edney took the leaves off one of the three plants and after a few months we are going to compare them. We have  done some investigations and left some plants to see if it grow even more.

Summer 1 - 2016

 In year 3, our topic is ‘The Olympics’ and we have been learning about the modern Olympics and the Olympics that were held in the Greek times. Also, we are thinking about the games that were chosen to be done by the athletes like running, swimming, javelin and hammer throw.

 In Maths we are learning about shapes and angles like right angles, acute angles, obtuse angles and reflex angles and we have been trying to find some angles on shapes. Also we are looking at parallel lines which are lines that never meet and perpendicular lines are lines that meet and make a right angle.

In English we are learning about traditional poems and we have looked at poems by a man called Robert Louis Stevenson like ‘In a Railway Carriage’ and ‘The Land of Counterpane’. Also we wrote poems similar to these and we have made rhyming counterpanes.

October 2015

We went on a trip to Celtic Harmony and learnt how to hunt down animals, find food and berries and build dens. We saw the round houses of the Stone Age and when we tried to get in through the iron gates we had to go knock knock!  We learnt how to make fire and carved an arrow head.  It was a fantastic day!

Autumn Term - September 2015

When we got back from the summer holidays, our topic was Yabba Dabba Doo. We learnt about the Stone Age.  In Maths we learnt about place value and about zero place holders.  In Science we learnt about rocks, fossils and soil. We found out windows were made out of rocks. We went around the school to find things that were made out of rocks.

May 2015


This term our topic has been 'Lost in the Forest', where we have learnt about rainforests.  We have covered the different layers, deforestation and we have had 2 visitors (parents who have worked in the rainforests!)

Maths

In maths we have been learning about fractions, time and obtuse, right and acute angles.

English

In English our topic is adventure stories we have focused on a book on a hedgehog called 'Hodgeheg' by Dick King Smith.

RE

We are learning how Islamic people pray and get ready for the Mosque .
